Option #2: Preexisting
Popular Music

There have been some films that have used preexisting popular music very effectively. There have also been many more films that have used it very ineffectively. In most cases, this is done because somebody at the studio thinks they could make money selling the soundtrack, not because the music actually improves the film.

With preexisting popular music, you end up with all the headaches associated with library music, except the price tag for using it usually goes way up - sometimes costing as much as it would to hire a composer to write original music. Because of the popularity of these songs, many times the price of licensing them for use in film or television is much higher.

Option #3: Hire a composer to create original music for your film
