Born in 1964. Studied with Samuel Adler and Joseph Schwantner at the Eastman School of Music, with George Crumb at the University of Pennsylvania and with Karel Husa at Cornell University. Taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Eastman School of Music and currently teaches at UCLA. In 1993, was a composer-in-residence at the Honeoye Central School, New York, under the auspices of the Meet the Composer program.

His works have been performed throughout the United States as well as in Japan and the Netherlands. Awards include an ASCAP Foundation Grant to Young Composers (1993) for "Autumn Flowering," first prize in the Fukui International Harp Music Award (1992) for "Calder's Closet," the "Special Prize" for best harpist/composer collaborative team in the second Fukui International Harp Music Awards Competition (1995) for "Ancient Rituals, Distant Landscapes," first prize in the 1995 National Association of Composers USA Competition for "Miniature VI," and first prize in the Guild of Temple Musicians Young Composer's Competition (1990-91) for "Psalm 93."

His Ph.D. is from the Eastman School of Music; his M.A., the University of Pennsylvania; and his B.A., Cornell University.
