Composer's Note: When you're a young college student with a deadline, a love for musical theater, and no song idea that excites you, you write a song about writer's block.
Intro
There's a song to be sung within her,
A song straight from her heart.
PLEASE LET ME WRITE HER SONG.
Her song will be so wonderful,
So moving, so sincere!
I can hear the theater go silent
As the audience strains to hear.
Her voice rises out of the darkness
The words drifting softly to the light,
But when I put my pen to the paper
Why can't I write?
1st Verse
The stage is set in the bleakest of ways
For she's just been told that her lover can't stay.
She sits right there in a whirlwind of thought.
She says she's fine, but she's not.
Emotion wells up inside her.
The melody keeps getting higher.
I can almost hear the song she's singing, but
Chorus
Where are the words?
Where is the tune?
Where is the mood?
So near, yet so far, from my mind!
Where are the notes?
Where is the song?
Where?
2nd Verse
I feel the same kinds of feelings within,
Those same emotions that tell her "Give in!"
That desp'rate sorrow, that empty refrain,
In all truth we are the same.
Too close to write it on paper,
But every feeling I savor.
I can almost hear the song I'm singing, but
Chorus
Where are the words?
Where is the tune?
Where is the mood?
Where are the notes?
Where is the song?
Where?
So near, yet so far, from my mind!
Outro
There's a song to be sung within her,
A song straight from the heart.
I need to write her song.
